Chamber Music Beginnings
Chamber Music Beginnings offers 3rd–5th grade students an immersive introduction to the world of chamber music. Aligned with the National Core Arts Standards and the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning Music, our program provides a unique opportunity for young learners to explore the world of chamber music. The educationally-designed concerts cater to the developmental and musical needs of each participant, exposing them to a diverse range of repertoire. Through this engaging experience, students deepen their appreciation for music and enhance their understanding of fundamental musical concepts.
Structured into three units throughout the year, Chamber Music Beginnings ensures a comprehensive learning journey centered on deep analysis of various chamber ensembles. Units one & two feature in-school sessions with CMS teaching artists, followed by concerts at Merkin Hall in Manhattan and the Brooklyn Public Library. Unit three brings an in-school assembly-style performance, featuring a string quartet performing right in your school!
Each unit includes:
- In-class activities and instruction led by CMS teaching artists prior to each performance
- Admission to live chamber music performances featuring a wind quintet and string quartet
- Access to teaching materials, recordings of works heard in performance, and guided listening activities
Due to the structure of the program's curriculum, priority registration will be granted to schools enrolled in all three units.
All programs are offered free of charge with registration. Teaching materials are available in English and Spanish.
